LPGA Reshuffles 2016 Priority List

The LPGA had its first reshuffle of its Priority List this past week. While most of the players moved up or down a few insignificant spots, there were some very significant moves also.

The Priority List is what is used to fill the required amount of spots for any given tournament. Without me getting into the categories, which is potentially confusing, here is a brief explanation. Most full field events have a field of 144 players. Usually 140 of the players come from the Priority List ranking. Two players are Monday qualifiers, and 2 more are sponsor exemptions. So to keep it simple, if your Priority Rating is #150, you have to hope that 10 players decide not to play, or you are probably not getting into the field.

Megan Khang jumped up 35 spots on the new LPGA Priority List.

The following players made the biggest jumps in last week's reshuffle:
Joanna Klatten - 142 to 92
Julie Yang - 130 to 93
Megan Khang - 124 to 89
Gaby Lopez - 129 to 94
Nontaya Srisawang - 128 to 97
Jodi Ewart Shadoff - 116 to 91
Simin Feng - 119 to 95
Jacqui Concolino - 105 to 88
Katie Burnett - 103 to 87
Paula Reto - 106 to 90

Although the jumps made by the above players look good on paper, it is not that significant as they were playing all full field events anyway.

The following players made the most important gains, and should now be playing in most full field events:
Su Oh - 169 to 138
Marion Ricordeau - 164 to 139
Brittany Altomare - 167 to 142
Stephanie Kono - 161 to 141

The following players are not guaranteed to play all full field events, but have a much better chance than before the reshuffle:
Becky Morgan - 155 to 146
Nannette Hill - 157 to 147
Christine Song - 158 to 149
Celine Herbin - 181 to 150
Briana Mao - 163 to 153
Samantha Richdale - 179 to 155
Demi Runas - 170 to 156
Ssu Chia Cheng - 177 to 155

The following players got hurt the most and will be seeing less playing time, or no playing time at all:
Belen Mozo - 139 to 151
Dori Carter - 144 to 152
Ji Young Oh - 147 to 157
Jane Rah - 146 to 161
Dewi Claire Schreefel - 149 to 162
Brooke Pancake - 151 to 163
Ashleigh Simon - 152 to 164
Lisa Ferraro - 156 to 165

The following players lost their medical exemptions:
Giulia Sergas - 88 to 140
Nicole Smith - 100 to no longer listed

The LPGA will have its second and final reshuffle of the year in mid June.

Other News:
This week's LPGA event, The Volunteers of America Texas Shootout, will have two cuts. The first, as usual, will be after the second round, where the field will be cut to the top 70 and ties. The field will be cut again after round three, to the top 50 players and ties. If a player makes the first cut and misses the second, it will not be counted in the record books as a missed cut.

  1. I wonder how much this affects players decisions whether to play in certain golf tournaments and leave out the rest.
