Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia Preview & Pairings

Congratulations goes out to Mirim Lee for winning the Reignwood LPGA Classic. It was her second win of the year, and tied Lydia Ko for most victories by a rookie in 2014.

This week the LPGA moves to Malaysia for the playing of the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia.
Lexi Thompson won this tournament in 2013 by a fairly comfortable margin, as she finished 4 strokes better than runner up Shanshan Feng.

Defending Champion Lexi Thompson

This will be tournament #26 of 32 on the LPGA schedule this year.

Here are the key details:

Course:  Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club
Location:  Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Defending Champion:  Lexi Thompson
Winning Score:  67-63-66-69 = 265 (-19)

Final Field:   75 players

My strength of field rating is a 62% making it the 8th weakest of the year. Thirty-five of the top 50 players on the LPGA Priority List, and 29 of the top 40 players from the Rolex Rankings will be teeing it up. Notable absentees include: Inbee Park, I.K. Kim, Cristie Kerr, Brittany Lincicome, Yani Tseng, Michelle Wie (injury) Jennifer Johnson, Ai Miyazato, and Mika Miyazato.

Charley Hull, Ariya Jutanugarn, Xi Yu Lin, and Natalie Gulbis are among the sponsor exemptions.

Other Tidbits:
Chella Choi has 15 top twenty finishes this year. That ranks her third behind only Stacy Lewis (20), and Inbee Park (16).  Strangely, only 7 of those finishes were top tens, which ranks her 12th in that department.

South Korean golfers, who couldn't buy a win in the first half of the season, now have won 6 of the last 7 tournaments, giving them 7 victories this year. The U.S. continues to lead with 12.

Rolex Rankings Movers of the Week:
Mirim Lee vaults up from #29 to #19, while Caroline Hedwall leaps from #52 to #41.

Race to the CME Globe:
Stacy Lewis continues to have a huge lead with 4,433 points. She is followed by Inbee Park with 3,277 and Lydia Ko with 2,906.
